This week, my partner and I were asked to rate certain traits and characteristics as being either "masculine" or "feminine". We did so using a scale of 0 to 100: 0 being completely masculine, and 100 being completely feminine. As my interviewee went through the list, she would sometimes come up with an example to help illustrate whatever answer she gave. The interview progressed, and I noticed that my partner didn't give any of the traits extreme ratings; Most were within 15 points of the neutral 50. I found myself agreeing with most of her answers, as most of our generation has a kind of collective stereotyped idea about each characteristic. This is of course because society tells us so. We were unfortunately unable to get to the end of the questionnaire due to time scarcity.
