For this weeks interview, I choose to read an article published by The Wall Street Journal titled Gender Wage Gap Reflects the 'Ask Gap'. Basically the article focused around how many men and women ask for raise. When they ask for raises and the results of asking for a raise. What you might have guessed is that more men ask for raises than women. Depending on the scenario, for example starting a new job compared to a existing job, had an effect on responses but still men were more likely to ask for raises compared to women. When I asked my interviewee why that may be he stated something along the lines that men probably were more likely to ask because the money that they bring home was the money his household depended on. He also stated that men tend to be more assertive then women. We talked about the fact that more men are in position of authority to give raises so possibly the solidarity amongst gender was another important factor.
