The article I chose, was in regards to athletic marketing gender disparity. A 12 year female writes a letter to Dicks Sporting Good in regards to their ads only displaying males playing sports, while females are being portrayed in a supporting role, on the sidelines either cheering or watching them play. The question posed to the interviewee is, "What is your opinion about gender discrimination in sports product advertising, in regards to the article read?" My interviewee believes that there should be gender equality in sports advertising. Despite the idea that their is athletic disparity between males and females, sports product advertising should not be solely based on gender dominance. Males and females alike, should have the opportunity to see products in ads to select for purchasing. The ad implies a bias, that advertises male athletic products, when females play the same sports, wear the same brands and equipment. My interviewee concludes the interview by saying companies like Dick's Sporting Good's put themselves at a disadvantage and risk of losing revenue by only marketing a specific gender.
