Eduardo Gutierrez

I interviewed a 15 year old high school male student on the issues of gender at school. The title of my article is, Six ways to embrace gender differences at school. This article breaks down the steps toward creating a more welcoming society to those who are faced with gender classification issues at some point in their lives, either as a child or even as an adult. I thought it would be interesting to hear from a student that is young and attends school on a regular basis. I felt that my interviewee focused on the fact that those who act against the gendered norm, than it only acts as a distraction to other students as well as teachers. He feels that this distraction has been socially constructed so that it seems normal to view transexual beings as different or not normal. My interviewee also feels that it is important not to judge others and that we need to help create a more welcoming environment at schools for those individuals who struggle with gender classification. This can be done through improved policies and rule making that makes gender differences more acceptable to society as a whole.
