My interviewee responded to an article about using gender inclusive expressions in a middle school in Nebraska. The teachers were given a document telling them to not separate their students into boy or girl groups, but rather by non-gender distinctions like milk or juice/cats or dogs. Also they were told not to say things like boys and girls but rather the purple penguin groups. Furthermore, the teachers were told to leach them to recognize all or nothing languages and learn to describe things by saying its more or less common rather than it being absolute. After being told a summary of this article my interviewee responded to it as being ridiculous since he didn't understand why you would use words like purple penguins to describe middle schoolers. He sees nothing wrong with saying boys and girls or men and women or being classified by gender. My interviewee doesn't agree with this and feels like they shouldn't be doing it. To him it seems like they're being more considered with being politically correct and doesn't see what purpose something like this would serve. However, he does agree with teaching students about all or nothing language. When using masculinity and femininity as an example he doesn't believe it's an all or nothing thing and that we have a perfect spot to fit into. However, he doesn't see what the problem is when using boys and girls or ladies and gentlemen to describe groups of kids.
