Class Participation

In my interview my interviewee responded to my summary of the article titled 'Gender inclusive' school district says drop 'boys and girls' and call kids 'purple penguins'. The interviewee wasn't too fond of the idea and didn't believe it would work, that all of a sudden someone "names their dog Skippy because they like peanut butter". The article did say something similar to the statement mentioned pondering on the idea of a school naming their athletic team, "Smith County Cowpersons". It was mentioned that the idea that this change in gender identity to stop bullying wasn't too helpful but the idea of standing up saying that my gender is my privacy is a good way to teach kids how to speak up. Overall the entire idea that changing what we call genders either boy or girl shouldn't have an effect over how people treat each other. That if people can't get past the stereotypes that there must be a particular problem that person is dealing with.
