I see gender done in various ways in my own life. As a female, I am expected to participant in these gender roles. For example, I feel as I am expected to dress nicely, do my hair, and do my make-up. If I don't, it is interpreted as I don't care about myself and thus am not necessarily taken seriously, even if I am just going to class. I feel like if females dressed as relaxed as males do, we would definitely get those weird looks. Also, I do gender in my job and my volunteer position as well. I work in retail, a woman's clothing store, which is very stereotypical for a young woman. If I worked in a male dominated area, such as a hardware store, I would not get that same respect. It is also expected for females to be more caring and participate in volunteer work(my whole peer education team are females). I also feel in general, I am not allowed to express that I am stressed from all the things I have going on because I would just be criticized as weak or lazy. But if a male was to express these same difficulties, people would take his comments as more serious and would empathize.
