Oct 12, In-class Interview

I did my interview on a female participant roughly around 20 years old. I interviewed her on the story about changing the environment in a Lincoln, Nebraska school and how they did not want to call their boys and girls, boys and girls anymore. They wanted to promote a gender-neutral environment so that people whose gender did not fit in exactly well with boys or girls can have a feeling of welcomeness in the classroom.

In our interview it was interesting to see what she said. The interviewee thought that school was not a major important factor in determining the students train of though towards gender inequality and that it should be left to the parents to decide how the kids will think about others at school. Since kids are already taught how to think towards other at a young age, school will not no significant effect their train of thought. Then, we went into gender neutral words such as police officer, instead of police man, firefighter, instead of fireman. One interesting point the interviewee made was that the uniform should be one sex, so there is no room for discrimination. I thought that this was interesting because if boys and girls joined the peace force, uniform should be two styles to promote welcoming of both sex. Instead of woman having to wear a mans uniform which is not as welcoming. We ended our interview with the point that school should not temper with the train of thought by students with gender neutrality, it is something that the parents are responsible for.
