I see gender being "done" throughout my day through the various ways people hold themselves as well as how they react to one another. I feel that a lot of it has to do with the way society has constructed its' thoughts on how to be either female or male. You can easily tell what gender a certain person is trying to portray just by the clothes they are wearing and the way they walk. For example, when I was in high school there was a guy who grew out his hair and dressed like a girl. I thought he was a girl to begin with until fellow classmates told me otherwise. When guys would check him out, to then find out he was a girl they would threaten him. Saying they wanted to fight just because they were now looked at as gay and fighting was the only way to win back their masculinity. Most guys will react negatively when faced with the idea that their masculinity is threatened. You don't hear to many stories of women reacting as negatively when their femininity is on the line. When people strongly believe that they have certain standards to meet to display themselves as a certain gender they become narrow minded, offensive, and aggressive when threatened. When people are more open to the idea that gender is flexible and are comfortable with who they are, people then become understanding and accepting of one another.
