Eskelsen Weekly Participation

This week's in-class activity involved the Bem Sex Role Inventory, a test designed to indicate if an individual has a masculine, feminine, or androgynous personality. I asked my interviewee, a female, if she deemed certain words as masculine, feminine, or both masculine and feminine. She identified seventeen words as feminine, ten words as masculine, and four words as both feminine and masculine. When asked why she thought "jealous" was both a feminine and masculine term, she explained that she has both female and male friends who can get jealous easily. When asked if her friends or family would view the word "jealous" in a different way, she said they most likely would because everyone has different interpretations of each of these words.
