For tonight's interview I read an article which laid out various reasons why Muslim women wear headscarves. All of the reasons were positive with a general theme that headscarves promote Islamic awareness and community while maintaining a sense of religions identity. I gave a brief summary to my interviewee and asked for her opnion regarding head dresses and whether or not there is a latent function of gender inequality underlying the practice of religions attire. Interviewee's opinion regarding headdresses was that women have a choice in whether or not they choose to adhere to religious clothing. She added that although in most cases here in the United States, Muslim women proudly wear their clothing as a symbol of solidarity there are plenty of examples in less than first world communities where religious clothing further perpetuates gender inequality.
