In my interview, we discussed how men and women differ in the workplace. My partner had experienced some differences where he worked at a pizza place. He said, his female manager wouldn't let any female employees work in the back with the men because she thought the males might get distracted or cause trouble. However, my partner explained this only felt like she was judging the men prematurely, primarily on the fact that they were men. He felt as though she was treating them like animals, as if they couldn't control themselves. He explained that he thought only a female manager would do that because she would be more aware of men's behavior toward women from experience. On the other side, having a male manager can be a downside when they don't take care of the problems going on in the workplace. He went on to say that if there was conflict among employees, a male manager would tend to ignore the problem and not really get involved, whereas the female manager would go to the employees personally and try to solve the problem. Therefore, the workplace with the female manager had better communication among workers and overall a better environment. My interviewee stated there are pros and cons to each side.
