Weekly Participation Nick Nakashian

During my interview, I recalled a story regarding subpoenas given to Huston ministers for the opposition to a local ordinance banning the discrimination of gay marriages, and the subpoenas were later withdrawn because it was argued that their First Amendment was under attack. While disagreeing with their views, my interviewee did acknowledge that they have the legal right to voice their opinions. When asked about a related even in Huston, where members of the similar stance on gay marriage believed it was their religious right to discriminate against gay couples in their public businesses, my interviewee felt that it was a violation of ones civil rights and that all people should be allowed public access to goods and services, and despite ones religious practices, you cannot publicly discriminate.
