Allen

I asked my interviewee about her opinions regarding an article on religious leaders meeting about gender violence issues.  She said that having the religious leaders on board with helping prevent gender violence, and not just the religious leaders; she stated that everyone in a role-model role should be helping prevent gender violence.  She said that whether or not dialogue was the issue involved in domestic violence was something that would depend largely on the couple involved, as well as the level of violence.  She said that sometimes the violence won't stop no matter what until the abused partner leaves and disappears for a while.  When asked about the idea that if people were following their religious texts, the violence wouldn't be there, she said she hadn't read all the religious texts, so she couldn't really say.  In terms of the Bible, she said it does teach against violence between married partners, despite the presence of a lot of violence in the Bible itself.  She disclaims that she's not an expert on the Bible.  She also says she doesn't know the percentages of those who are religious versus those who are not; she says it might be different for those who don't.
