I read an article by Kate Lovelady where she discussed the phrase "ethical sex". She believes sex is ethical as long as it is a consensual act in which the participants are gaining happiness from the act. The article mentions how the media fails to portray sex in any positive manner and that many people view sex as an act solely for procreation. Lovelady disagrees with this idea and claims that sex is a way for many people to relieve stress and pain and even depression. I summarized the article to my interviewee and asked him various questions about his opinion on the matter. He defined ethical sex as an act that is socially accepted. I had him elaborate on what he meant by socially accepted and he said that as long as the sexual activity was consensual that it was morally accepted. He went on to describe sex as an act for pleasure and happiness and agreed with all of Kate Lovelady's opinions of sex. The interviewee said that sex is not solely for procreation because if it were, the human race would not be using sex as a daily activity or an act to gain pleasure as we do. We would innately be having sex during fertile times as a way to produce offspring. He also described some examples of the media and video games that portrayed sex as a negative activity and said that they do not give us positive details of sex because it is usually portrayed as a scandalous act. Both the interviewee and Kate Lovelady agreed that sex makes us happy and that the world is a better place with more happy people.
