Eskelsen Weekly Participation

This week's discussion was on the gendered world of work. The interviewee responded to the question, "How do men and women differ in your workplace, and how does gender matter?" The interviewee responded that there are a lot more female employees in her workplace, a retail setting, and female managers, like herself, with a male supervisor. Interestingly, though, she stated that her supervisor does have female bosses. She said that gender does matter in her workplace because employees tend to listen better to her supervisor compared to herself or her fellow managers. She was then asked if she believed that the fact that her workplace is retail has anything to do with why there are so many female store managers. She said yes, that she believes that because it is a retail store, there are so many female managers.
