This week we were given a list of words that we were supposed to ask our interviewee to rate on a scale of 0-100. 0 was totally masculine, 50 was equally masculine and feminine, and 100 was totally feminine. My interviewee was male and when presented with the list he did not rate anything totally masculine or totally feminine, so nothing was a 0 or 100. He did however say that some stuff was weighted as more masculine or more feminine. For example, he said that self-reliant was a 30 meaning that it was more masculine than feminine.  He said that he believed this because of how society and media has put an emphasis on the need for men to be self-reliant. On the contrary he said that shy was more of an 80 to 75 because women tend to be shyer whereas men are more outspoken. He also gave independent a 50 because men have always been independent but know women are more determined to also be independent. Ultimately his friends and family would agree with most of his answers but of course there would also be some difference in opinions. These are just a few examples of the long list of words we discussed.
